Pinterest Goes International

by Signal Staff on 5/4/2012

Social media star, Pinterest, has announced its plans to go international. Since its launch in March of 2010, Pinterest has become one of the fastest-growing social networks ever and now ranks as the third most popular social network in the U.S. There is no question that Pinterest is rapidly growing and its next step is expansion.

Pinterest is currently looking for translators in French, German, Japanese, Portuguese and Spanish. To make the site truly global, they want to offer the site in a variety of languages. Social media icon, Facebook, currently has 97 language options.

According to a blog post by Pinterest,  they are wanting to expand to the following languages; Dutch, Greek, Italian, Korean, Malay, Polish, Russian, Simplified Chinese, Swedish and Turkish fairly soon. It’s amazing to see the success Pinterest has had in the United States and we are excited to see it become a international sensation.

The Pinterest craze has already reached some countries. For example, China has about 20 Chinese Pinterest clones, according to the BBC. However, nothing beats the original Pinterest. The Chinese imitation sites usually involve e-commerce or only allowing certain brands to be pinned.

Pinterest has become huge;  not only to individuals but brands as well. Going international is just one step in the right direction for Pinterest.

Facebook Acquires Instagram for $1 Billion

by Signal Staff on 4/10/2012

Facebook first surprised us with their new Facebook Timeline layout and now with an unexpected purchase. Facebook has bought the popular iPhone (now Android friendly) application, Instagram, for $1 billion dollars. Instagram and Facebook have both released statements that say Instagram will continue to work with rival social networks such as Twitter. This will allow users to post on other services, follow users outside of Facebook, and to opt out of sharing on Facebook. Mark Zuckerburg, CEO of Facebook posted this on his Facebook Timeline, “For years, we’ve focused on building the best experience for sharing photos with your friends…

Companies Shift to Facebook Timeline on March 30th

by Signal Staff on 3/2/2012

On March 30th there will be a big change when you log onto Facebook. Everyone, including company pages, will be switched to the new Facebook Timeline.  The new Facebook Timeline looks similar to a scrapbook. It features content from the company as well as content from your friends. For example, if your friends have post statuses or wall posts mentioning a company’s name it will show up on the company’s Facebook Timeline. This new profile layout will present some challenges, but essentially most functions will remain similar if not the same for most of our clients. Facebook values third-party applications…

Facebook Campaigns

by Signal Staff on 12/12/2011

As years have passed, we have witnessed Facebook overpower other social networks in their chase to dominate the market. When the amount of users skyrocketed into millions, the next step was for companies to tap into a market where specific niches could be targeted. What many of these companies didn’t realize is that it is not as easy as just putting up a Facebook fan page.  Everyone always assume that because you are on Facebook, people will automatically like you.  But as a consumer, why would I follow you if I don’t get any benefit out of it? That’s where…

Embeddable Tweets

by Signal Staff on 12/8/2011

I always thought that Facebook was a neighborhood, a blog (whatever engine you personally like) was an apartment and Twitter was the bar where outrageous things were said. As Twitter has gain popularity, it has gone through a few changes. Recently, Twitter just decided to create embeddable tweets. These tweets will work in the same fashion as embedding video links from YouTube or Vimeo. I personally believe that this is kind of cool. I can’t wait to embed some of the things my friends say in my personal blog. I believe that this new feature was developed because of the…

Instagram

by Signal Staff on 11/29/2011

As the iPhone keeps becoming a force to reckon within the clustered cell phone market, there is one small App that has been gaining a lot of popularity in the past year that makes it even more attractive. Instagram is an App that uses pictures taken with your iPhone as it applies multiple filters to give it an old washed-up look. The App allows you to share your pictures with your friends via Twitter and Facebook. It has become so popular, that now you can order wall prints of your favorite snapshots! (find out more here). Your pictures are printed…

The Phone Wars

by Signal Staff on 11/18/2011

I believe that the closest thing to Star Wars is the Cell phone wars. In recent years, cell phones have gone from devices that were used to communicate people to devices that are 100% smarter than the actual users. In this epic battle, who ever (iPhone and Android) have the most tech pit falls is going to lose. Recently it has been announced that Android has started to suffer from Trojans and other types of malware. This poses an immediate threat to people’s identity, privacy and their monthly charge. The article at Mobile Today states that one of the reasons…

Is Flash dead?

by Signal Staff on 11/16/2011

Flash is a product that some people love and some others don’t. It has really cool features for animation purposes, but when you are building a website it can become a nightmare (specially if your site needs to be viewed on mobile devices). As of recently, Adobe will focus their efforts on Flash Air, which is able to function properly with tablets and cell phones. This does not mean that Flash will be officially gone (like a lot of people would like to). Flash in general, will still be used for normal web browsing, as it seems that Adobe is…
